Ao Por [Aow Pour]
Booming area with stunning archipelago views and boat harbor on the eastern coast of Phuket. Prices have been going up the last few years and new projects are announced constantly in the area. A deep sea harbor is to be built and the area is a popular staring point for many island hopping tours.
Lohn Island [Koh! Lohwn]
Large island with long stretch of beach and mountains outside Rawai, Phuket. 20 minutes by passenger ferry from Chalong Bay pier(Leaves early every morning).Only 10 minutes by speed boat.Inhabitants are mainly Muslims earning their livelihood by fishing and farming rubber and coconuts.
Sirey Island [Koh! Si!Ley]
Beautiful Island just north east of Phuket Town, easily accessible by bridge. Private and quiet but still only a 5 minute drive from busy Phuket Town. The east coast archipelago with Koh Yao Yai gives a stunning view from parts of the island. The beach is not good for swimming due to shallowness and low tide. The island has seafood restaurants, a sea gipsy community and a view point temple with a reclining Buddha.
Beautiful bay famous among the global jet-setters. Fantastic sunsets and villas for the super rich. Second home to many of Asia’s Industrial Tycoons. Land is sold out and prices are extreme whenever a nice plot re-circulates onto the market.
Laem hin [Laem Hinn]
Beach area close to Phuket Town. On the right hand side driving from Phuket town towards the airport. Opposite “Super Cheap” just before reaching the Bypass Rd / Airport Rd intersection. The area has a boat harbor with ferries shuttling passengers to many popular island getaways. The area is popular among Thais for seafood restaurants clustered along the beach.
Pakrok is a quickly growing area of flat land well suitable to build inexpensive housing. Quickly increasing land prices the last 2 years and still going. Conveniently located just right of the heroines circle. Quick access to the Ao Por beach and marina areas, Mission Hills golf course, B.I. (Dulwich) School, The Airport and the Phuket Boat Lagoon.
Phuket’s busy capital is slowly becoming Phuket’s old town with historical Sino Portuguese buildings. Many businesses are moving towards the centre of the island - Kathu. Many restaurants and nightlife. A worth wile visit for many tourists that want to experience the “real” Phuket. Popular shopping at Robinson and Ocean Department stores.
Kalim Bay [Ka:Limh]
The beautiful Kalim bay, located between Patong and Kamala, has over the years come to grow together with Patong. The area is popular since it is almost in Patong but still secluded and relaxed. The beach is popular by surfers for it’s waves and reef and among oyster farmers for it’s low tide. Famous outfits in the area are Novotel Hotel, Baan Rimpa restaurant, Panyaah sea view restaurant(very beautiful at night), L’orchidee luxury villas and Kalim Bay Resort.

Popular tourist area and beach. Hotels mixed with upscale villa developments. Long beach good for bathing. The area is family friendly and less hectic than Patong and Kata. On the easternmost corner of the beach you will find Rockfish restaurant. A popular upscale restaurant located on the rocks. Around the westernmost corner, going towards Surin beach, you will find…
…Laem Singh beach.
One of Phuket’s nicest beaches accessible through an adventurous walk through the jungle. Very popular among staff from various international airlines. Many Italian and French tourists. Ali’s restaurant has a very good Italian menu and Odd’s cocktail bar at the eastern end of the beach offers beach parties every Sunday during the high season.
Karon Beach [Kaa:lhon]
Phuket’s second largest tourist beach. Long beach of white sand lined with major hotels. Only a 10 minute drive south east from Patong. The bay after Karon is the third longest tourist beach – Kata. The area between the two beaches popluar for it’s many western restaurants and the mini golf venue - Dino Park.
Kata Beach [Ka!:tha!] Phuket’s most popular tourist area. Located around 15 minutes by Tuk Tuk from Patong. Suitable area for families. By far the most popular web search for our over seas customers. Nice swimming from a beautiful beach with a small scenic island around 300 metres out from the shore line. Many restaurants and resorts strewn along the beach walk. Large Scandinavian community and many western restaurants. Popular venue for the families is Dino’s minigolf located in the little shopping area in between Kata and Karon. Many scenic land plots with sea view around the mountainside. Hotels at over 90% occupancy rate during high season and around 60-70% on low season.
Kata Noi Beach [Ka!:tha! No-iy]
Small beach separated by a small hill from Kata. Very relaxed atmosphere. Beautiful and swim able beach.

Popular tourist venue with full view over the two Kata beaches. Located about a minute drive on the mountain behind the south east end of Kata Noi.
Kathu is a very popular area for it’s convenience by Phuket expatriate veterans. Kathu is located in a mountain valley on the other side of the mountains behind Patong. A mere 7 minutes drive going towards Central Department Stores and Phuket Town. Most expatriates seem to move to this area after a few years on the island and we generally advise customer’s planning to stay in Phuket longer than 4 months* per year to take a look at houses in Kathu.
Reason: If you stay in Phuket for a while you will get tired of going to the beach every day. You will also get tired of the long drives from your beach property to your everyday chores, conveniences, movie theatres, golf courses (a total of 63 golf holes are located in Kathu) etc.
From Kathu everything you need seems to be within a 10 minute drive: British International School (Dulwich), Phuket Town, Patong, By-Pass Road, Loch Palm Golf Club, Phuket Golf & Country Club, Bangkok-Phuket International Hospital, Lotus Super Centre, Central Department Stores, Makro etc etc. This is also the reason why we at Phuket Properties have located our HQ in Kathu (300 meters from the Caltex gas station driving from Patong going towards Central).
Historical Note: Kathu is an old Chinese settlement originally called Ket Ho.
*For customers planning to stay in Phuket only around 2 months per year, we usually recommend taking a look at condominiums (easy maintenance) with beach access in Kata, Kamala or Surin. Preferably with rental pool programs in place for easy possibility of some return on the investment.

Chalong has become the hub of the south eastern most part of Phuket. Banks, mini marts, restaurants and other conveniences are gathered around the 5 way round about often referred to by its’ Thai name - Chalong “Ha Yaek”. The areas around traffic circle and the Chalong bay boat pier has become a meeting point for the many long term staying expats that stay in Chalong, Rawai and Nai Harn. Chalong is home to Phuket’s largest housing project Land & houses park that is said to have over one thousand stand alone houses. Chalong has convenient road access all 4 way lane leading directly to Phuket Town, Central Department stores and Rawai. The popular beaches Nai harn and Kata are both easily accessible within a 15 minutes ride. The future for the area seems bright since the Phuket Gazette recently announced that the government has approved plans and assigned a budget of 200 million baht for building a 6 way highway straight over the mountains to Patong.
Chalong Harbour [Aow Chaa:lhong]
Chalong Bay harbour is Phuket’s biggest boat anchorage and home to many tour companies, speed boats, deep sea fishing tours and ferries shuttling tourists to popular island retreats. The harbour has a long beautiful pier with many hundreds of boats of all sizes. Ao Chalong has a long, flat, shallow, muddy bottom; at ebbtide, waters recede as much as one kilometer. It is very picturesque but useless for swimming. Most visitors to the islands south of Phuket depart from Chalong pier, and the bay's restaurants are well known for their seafood. Charters to various places can be arranged from there, and it is the center of the island's yachting businesses. To get there take Jao Fah Tawan Tok Rd. or Jao Fah Tawan Okk Rd. to Chalong Circle, often called the Ha Yaek, or Five Ways, because it is a five-way intersection. The pier and a number of restaurants are located on the short road leading to the beach from the circle.
Coral Island [Ko! Hay]
Very popular tourist Day trip Island located a short boat trip out of Phuket’s southern most tip, Rawai. Coral Island has a white sandy beach and a nice snorkeling coral reef. Coral Island is reachable by a short boat ride from Chalong or Rawai.

Thai Muang [Taay Mu-ang]
The area is becoming more and more popular among westerners.
It’s location along the Petchkasem Highway makes the are an convenient
alternative since Phuket International Airport is a mere 30 minute drive away.
Thai Muang has many popular tourist attractions such as the
13 km long sandy beach, the beautiful Ton Phrai waterfall,
the Bo Dan hot springs and the ocean sea turtle breeding grounds near the
Pha Nga naval base.
